Spellbinders 2023 Annual Celebration Recap
It was so much fun seeing our fellow storytellers at the 2023 Spellbinders Annual Celebration on April 15th. Karen Culver and Jim McCauley did a fantastic job of co-chairing this event. The stories were plentiful, as was the yummy food!
Angel Vigil, a founding board member and emeritus director of Spellbinders, shared memories of the early days of our organization, working with fellow Denver professional storytellers Dr. Norma Livo, Cherie Karo Schwartz, and Opalanga Pugh to advise our founder, Germaine Dietsch, on developing the Spellbinders Program for volunteer storytelling in schools that you are continuing these 35 years later! Angel also regaled us for an hour with many delightful stories and left us wanting more!
During the business portion of the annual meeting, Cathy Lichty presented slides summarizing recent survey results and concerns indicating the possibility of no candidates willing to run for council seats to replace those whose terms would expire at the end of June. However, nominations from the floor resulted in enough volunteers to serve as trustees to continue operating as Spellbinders National. Diana King and Paulette Foss, of Boulder County Spellbinders, and Karen Culver of Larimer County Spellbinders were nominated. Also, Lisa Radford of Littleton Spellbinders agreed to serve another term, joining four continuing members, thus bringing the total to eight trustees which is enough to keep Spellbinders National going. This new slate of council members will be voted on at the June 15th meeting.
